Idea Spark: When God winks at you in business, do you see what He’s trying to tell you?
This has been an unexpected whirlwind Spring Break in the Crossland household.
Five days before our trip to Moab, Utah (you can see pictures from that trip right here), we mosied on to a local RV dealership to browse through a few RV floorplans we’d been casually looking at online.
(When you’re an RV nerd, looking at these things is how you spend your free time, am I right?)
After church, we took the 10-minute drive into town to check out a few bumper-pull toy haulers. That’s a picture of our kiddos debating the model we ended up choosing. After noting our preference, we piled back in the truck and headed home to pack up our current travel trailer. We left at 4 a.m. Friday morning, so there was a lot to do.
But there was just one problem…
… that toy hauler continued to stick out in our minds.
As I was sprawled awkwardly on our kid’s top bunk, making up their bed with my feet dangling off the side, trying not to lose the ladder’s position, my husband walked in and said:
“So, should we do it? Should we put in an offer?”
I didn’t realize he was that close to making an offer on the RV, but I should have. We’d been looking at them for months and knew our financial numbers were in place to make a sound purchase decision.
But now?
Was it the right time?
Did we *really* want it?
The wheels in my head started turning, and we said yes, but only if it was the right offer.
A few hours later, the salesman sent us a quote. After sleeping on it, we negotiated our way to an offer and accepted it on Monday morning.
That’s when the whirlwind began.
We needed a new tow hitch and sway bars for the heavier weight, but none were in Tucson.
We agreed to trade in our current rig for the new one, so I needed to clear everything out again.
I still had the usual groceries to buy and meals to prep.
I also had laundry to do in preparation for the trip, kids to get off to Spring Break Vacation Bible School and work to do for a client (I'm working on an exciting ghostwriting project right now that has my heart!).
We had to switch over the insurance.
We had to do the walkthrough, install the new sway bars, and repack the new rig ahead of our trip.
It was a wild adventure; through it all, I saw God winking at me about my business.
The whirlwind felt more tame because of the resources I was preparing to release on Cruisin’ + Campfires (coming in early April - WAHOO!).
The whirlwind felt more manageable because of my unique RV packing checklist that I use and sell at Cruisin’ + Campfires.
Through this process, I also discovered new products to help my customers and create even more exciting new products to simplify this buying process.
God was giving me the biggest wink of acknowledgement that what I was creating IS needed, IS valuable, and IS on track toward my goals.
He reminded me that my vision when I started the company would come to fruition most gorgeously.
I’ve known for a while that greeting cards are nice but not IT. They’re not the product line that will make me stand out from the competition and get into stores. My unique ideas that are needed, unique organizational approaches that are helpful, and the unique products specifically for the market I serve — RVers — will spark the growth I know I can achieve.
I promised you some behind-the-scenes insights from my Cruisin’ + Campfires journey, and this was one I couldn’t ignore.
Now it’s your turn:
