Happy SUMMER! ☀️

Have you started transitioning from school mode to summer mode?

I once saw a reel that reminded me we only get a few summers with our kids. When they’re little, they want to be with us, and we get to indulge in all the sticky fingers, fun adventures, and fruit galore.

The stark reality that this season of life will be over all too soon has made me even more intentional about how we enjoy summer fun. Over here, we’ve been having lots of time outdoors and poolside, just like summer should be. We’ve played with friends on trampolines, relaxed in hammocks, spent plenty of time outdoors (despite the heat), and just enjoyed the slower pace that this season brings.

I’m introducing a new approach to this newsletter. While I’ll still share behind-the-scenes stories from our homeschool life, I’ll also share some extra fresh ideas to inspire your own homeschool journey.

You can expect this fun each Friday, too (the same fun we have daily inside Homeschool Flow, where you can contribute your own ideas and stories).

It’s summer break for many homeschooling families. How are you approaching teaching during the summer?

One thing we do each year that’s seemingly less fun but teaches a great deal of responsibility and respect for our belongings is organizing. My son is actually just as excited about or hushing days as he is about pool time.

Here’s how it works:

As a team, you remove everything from a room, except for the furniture. Then, you sit in the room for a bit and let all the chaos and noise come to a quiet. After you’re clear about how you want that room to feel, you add things back in intentionally while donating or tossing the rest of what you’ve outgrown. We do this in our boys’ rooms each year, but this year, I’m also doing our homeschool room, kitchen, and bedroom.

I loved this post about summer from the Free Range Families Substack.

It’s all about how summer is the homeschool family’s superpower. This will be our first summer moving from one homeschool year to another, so I loved the perspective Brittany shares here!

Even though it’s hot here in Arizona, we still love getting outside and having fun with backyard games. This one is a favorite, and I love how it’s so easy to store. Better yet, kids of all ages can come together for a friendly competition. And, when you’re done, it pairs well as blocks for littles to stack in the shade.

I love this savory appetizer for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up with our kids or to bring to backyard barbecues. Seriously, SO refreshing!

As many of you know, I got my start freelancing as a copywriter and content strategist. I have a private mentorship program for content creators that’s undergoing a significant shift right now, focusing on developing your newsletter idea and leveraging it to grow. And I’m offering private mentorship after we get you all situated.

Doors are currently closed to the Content Club where all of this is going down but if you’re interested in creating a place where you can share your ideas and earn some extra cash, hit reply. I’ll let you in the back door as we get started with this new, powerful strategy that’ll make it super easy for you to show up each week, then get back to your homeschool.

I love this from our book club author for June, Ginny Yurich. Upgrade to a paid subscriber to join us in our asynchronous (read: on your schedule) discussion around Homeschooling: You’re Doing It Right Just By Doing It.

P.S. Do you manage a co-op, formal or informal? If you bring in 5 moms, you all get a 50% discount inside the Homeschool Flow.
