A few months ago, I was chatting with a friend when I caught myself saying, “I’ve designed a life for myself where I don’t have to put my butt in my seat for 8 hours a day — why am I asking my kids to do that in a school setting that isn’t serving them?!”
Boy, that statement hit me like a gut punch as it came from my lips.
My kids' school isn’t bad. In fact, it’s one of the top schools in Arizona. Still, a few things made me realize that public schooling isn’t best for them. They stopped loving learning. They started acting out. And, they were exhausted from all the running around between school and the activities they wanted to do.
Minutes later, I sent a text message to my husband, who was out of town at the time, and said:
“We need to seriously consider homeschooling.”
He quickly responded enthusiastically and off to the races I went.
I researched the curriculum and became obsessed with finding exciting new lessons for us.
I researched homeschooling co-ops in our area and found a few that would allow us to do more of the activities we want (music, sports, travel, and STEM!) while still learning the core curriculum.
I love, love, love my business, but I knew I needed to make a few adjustments to ensure I could homeschool effectively and still run a business that filled my cup and wallet.
The more I chipped away at the questions list, the more answers and clarity I found and the more possible it seemed.
I’m thrilled to share that after cutting a few of the elements of my business that I’m not able to do while homeschooling and adding in some really exciting new areas of learning for my boys, we have a solid plan going into this next season.
